II37

Plant the seed of friendship, and you gain the world.
Dig up the weeds of conflict, they only cause suffering.

When you're at the tavern, behave properly;
Don't be surprised when the wine gives you a hangover!

Enjoy the company of night, you'll die anyways,
And this world will keep spinning many days and nights after you are gone.

Bring a riding horse for Leila, beauty of the moon,
May Allah guide her way to find her beloved Manjoon.

Seek with all your effort the water of life.
Listening to sentimental nightingales will only lead you to the dirt.

The Beloved's curls made a pure contract with my heart,
The Beloved's sweet lips will secure my comfort.

Hafiz! Sit still under the beautiful cypress tree,
Never mind whether its Allah's will or your own!
