III73

When the lyre plays, it sounds like it says:
"when publically condemned, drink in secret!"

"The priests condemn love and all bold lovers,
They condemn youth and they condemn age."

"They forbid the secrets of love from being told or heard
But I choose love, even if Hell is the price."

Their hearts are nothing but dark
and yet they dare to believe they are makers of miracles.

Beyond the veil we're subject to much illusion,
But no one can truly know the words of almighty Allah.

They blindly forbid men from going to the Teacher,
They show no respect for men of ancient wisdom.

Many kingdoms of love are bought with just a gaze,
A lover has sinned if he ignores such a chance.

Some try to practice denial to reach the gate of Allah,
Others try to depend on fate and hope for success.

You cannot depend on the passing world,
Everything that is now, life will change.

Drink, Hafiz! I tell you that all priests and guards
are proven hypocrites when you look beyond their words.
