III85

Good news! Spring comes, and the flowers bloom;
I'll spend my pension on wine and flowers.

"Where's the wine?" ask the songbirds.
The Nightingale asks, "Who took away the veil of roses?"

What does the "Paradise-fruit" signify?
Is it anything more than the sweet apple of the Beloved?

Accept sorrow, since you seek to attain;
No good can come without accepting pain.

Take the sweet kiss of the caring Saki,
Now that violets surround the garden.

The Saki has stolen my wits,
I have no desires, and only one word in my mouth.

I want to burn my dirty Sufi cloak,
The Teacher won't trade it for a cup of wine.

Spring passes soon, wise men: awaken!
Spring has passed by, and Hafiz did not have wine.
