IV116

I've said it before, I'll say it again;
If I've gone astray, its not my fault.

I try to repeat, like a parrot in front of a mirror,
the words that the Eternal Teacher has asked me to express.

The rose and the thorn alike will pass; the Gardener remains.
How He wishes us to grow, that's how we'll grow.

Friends! I pray that you forgive this heartless man,
Jewelers, figure out how much my jewel is worth.

Red wine will stain a respectable cloak,
But its no matter, the wine washes away my falsehoods.

Lovers can sometimes be happy, sometimes sad,
The night is joyful, but this my dawn is sad.

Hafiz, don't complain about the dust of the tavern!
You'll be smelling tavern dust for as long as the Sun shines.
