III93

I want only one Rose from the garden of the world,
and to rest in the grass under a cypress tree.

Allah save me from admiring or joining the hypocrites,
Of all the good things of life, I choose wine.

The palace of paradise may be your reward for your goodness,
For the Lovers of Freedom, the Tavern will do right now.

Sit by the stream, and watch time go by,
To me this is a sublime destiny.

Look at the world's gifts! It gives joy and sadness,
You may seek; but I do not want Tomorrow.

When the Friend is with me I seek for nothing,
His company strengthens me, even if I'm weak.

O Lord! Do not offer Hafiz paradise,
I prefer your refuge to all existence.

Hafiz, if you complain you will provoke.
Let your poetry be enough for you.
