IV109

I'm no lover of Freedom if I repent from Love and Wine,
The Guard knows of my dislike of such penitents.

I insult those who have become thus repentant,
I'd have to be crazy to repent from the Spring Wine.

Love is a Pearl, the tavern is the Ocean: I'll dive there.
It doesn't matter if I never emerge from this Ocean alive.

You can't rely on the covenant of heaven,
You're better off making a pact with the Wine-cup.

Though I'm a beggar, I have a rare treasure,
Freedom from caring about the turnings of this cruel world.

If the merciful Friend has given me Hellfire,
It would be foul of me to desire the streams of paradise.

Last night the Beloved's lips brought me relief,
Yet I hold no belief in the loyalty of the Beloved.
