IV127

The nightingale stood on the cypress tree last night,
its shrill voice explaining many truths:

"Come, Moses, the fire has appeared on the bush,
Bushes show the secret of divine union"

"The clever birds will go to the garden,
Drink and enjoy while you hear their love-chirps"

"You've heard of Jam's Cup, but did it do Jam any good?
All the world's riches must pass."

"Listen to my strange sad tale,
I was killed by my Friend, though he had the breath of Christ."

Many hearts go mad just from your gaze,
Looking into your eyes I need no drink.

The farmer was wise to advise his children:
"What today you sow, tomorrow you shall reap."

Saki has served Hafiz too much wine,
His hat and cloak are all a-mess!
