III91

Let me give you my advice, listen and take it,
Hear my counsel and don't hesitate.

Make the most of these days of your youth, while you can.
Old time is an ambush.

Heaven and Earth mean nothing to true Lovers.
There are many pleasures, but Love is rare.

I look for fraternity, let the bards play.
Let them show their feelings on the lyre.

So long as the world spins the way I plan it to
I swear I won't drink or sin!

Everything was written in the beginning,
So I'm afraid things might not go as you plan.

Saki, serve the wine that smells like lilies!
The Beloved's beauty will shine in my memory.

Saki! Serve me the cup of pure wine,
Tell the jealous priest that I'm fine.

I repented from wine, but broke my fast
when the Saki spoke some kind words to me.

No one wants my sorry heart,
Only true Lovers can understand my state.

Forget repentance in this good cheer, Hafiz!
Or the Saki's gaze will kill you for this sin.
